Traded in our less than thirty day old pair of 3G for the 3G S
Can't seem to get voice dial to recognize any names. What am I missing?
Also...is voice dial with Bluetooth (plantronics voyager pro) not supported? Can't get it to work at all.
...
Handsfree dialing via bluetooth is NOT supported.
...
It is supported. They just screwed it up. Press the home button on the iPhone. The prompt comes thru the speakers on the phone but the call will connect to your bluetooth headset. Apple says you can use either button to connect but somehow they got it wrong.
...
That does not constitute "hands free" dialing. If you have to physically take your phone out and push a button it does not count at all.
...
PlayboyPenguin: You're right. Fought with some moron at Apple for 45 min over this. He finally confirmed it is not supported & told me to use the corded headset that came with the phone. They don't give a s__t. You can buy a $20 phone with bluetooth voice dialing. I finally told him to shove the phone, was returning it & hung up.
...
I have tried the voice rec. to play songs hasnt even come close to getting it right. Did they let your just trade the 3g for the 3gs or did they make you pay.

To get around Voice Dialing on any iphone, just sign up for Voice Connect.($5/month & well worth it)Iphone's will redial on Bluetooth headset. *08 dials Voice Connect, which you can load all you contacts in. So unless you manually dial a #, when you push redial button on headset (i.e. Parrott BX250, bottom button), if your last # was *08, then it dials *08, which is Voice Connect, which has all your contacts, weather & much, much more, talk with it, have it dial any name in your contacts, check weather, send voice clips (text msg. by voice) & many, many more things for a flat fee of $5/month. Had it for years & Love it !?! 😎
...
Ok. So you are saying that as long as the first call you make in the morning is to Voice Connect, for the rest of the day you can just hit redial (which does work on my voyager pro) the rest of the day? Hmmmm.... Hate to give AT&T any more money for an already overpriced plan but I'll consider it. Maybe I'll swap that out for our five dollar texting which we barely use (mostly email)
as far as swapping out the three g we were within thirty days and since we had paid the full two hundrdled for the eight gig before they dropped the price we opted to get the sixteen rather than get the difference in a refund.

Also on Voice Connect, you can send a Voice Clip, which is basically a voice text msg. & since your using VoiceConnect data, no X chg. & the person you send it to can reply back using VoiceClip. You can also use your 3G/s to tether your laptop, on 3G network about 555kbps, not to bad, if no Wi-Fi.
...
ok....i thought the tether was NOT yet available...something to do with an issue on AT&T's end? How do I do this....unbelievable that there is so little "how to" on this phone. The people at most att stores like to say "call apple".

Go to help.BenM.at & read & follow directions, very simpleî–îÂÂ

So I signed up for VoiceDial.....works pretty decent so far with the bluetooth....certainly after I went into settings and set it to expert mode with less instructions.
It certainly works better than the built in voice dial on the 3gs....What a piece of crap! I wish I could get one of the many voice dial apps to work with the "hold down home button" function instead of the built in garbage!
...
Voice dial works perfectly for me. I assume you are speaking English without a strong accent.
