iPhone 3.1 finally announced.

AT&T got quite some heat to not support MMS when the iPhone 3.0 OS got released back in June. Now AT&T officially announced this week to launch MMS for the iPhone on September 25th.
You actually need to update you iPhone as the MMS feature will get enabled through it. The update will be released on September 25th.
AT&T is defending the delay that they needed to prepare the infrastructure to handle the gazillions of MMS you will send from your iPhone.
If the iPhone software update is only AT&T specific or rolled up in the upcoming iPhone 3.1 release is not clear yet.

My phone is on 3.0.1 and I have the option for mms, but AT&T doesn't support it yet. If u google how to enable mms u find a file, I think it is AT&T 5.0 and not 4.0 which is the current release. But 3.1 would be nice, but not likely on the 25th

they confirmed 3.1 is coming on the same day..

Straight from the article here
"iPhone users will be able to access the service via an iPhone software update that will be made available on that day. The software update will be distributed through iTunes."

Reading is fundamental.

im sorry but did i miss the part where it says 3.1 ? 🤨

this is such a silly debate but if your saying it says 3.1 and it clearly did not say in what you copy and pasted, maybe reading isnt fundamental. unless "thru Itunes" indicates 3.1 but i updated my 3gs thru itunes to 3.0.1

again silly debate

Mms is now working, follow the instructions while using 3.0 or 3.1 but before updating to iTunes 9.

in a run box, type "cmd" to bring up the prompt.

Enter in this:

“C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

This will allow you to go into itunes to choose the .ipcc file.

Go to the page for your iphone, and SHIFT+Click "Update". This will allow you to choose carrier information file .ipcc using the drop down box. Point it to the file, restart your phone and MMS should be enabled. If it doesn't work on 3.0, you might have to update, but I believe it should work either way.

Everyone should know the iPhone 3.0 supports MMS Messaging, however AT&T is not currently allowing it on their network.  To enable it you need:

Modified version of ATT_US.ipcc get it here
iPhone running firmware 3.0
iTunes 8.2
Another AT&T Phone, non-iphone
Enabling IPCC Updates for iTunes 8.2

MAC OS X

Close iTunes
Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
Run the command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
Windows 32 Bit

Close iTunes
Go to Start then Run and type CMD
Run this command(If you right-click on the cmd window you can paste): “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Windows 64 Bit

Close iTunes
Go to Start then Run and type CMD
Run...
