HELP (someone w/experience in VZW phone sales)

I recently upgraded to a Blackberry Tour on Verizon and am ready to jump ship aka pick up a Moto Droid. I'm wondering if I add a new line of service on to my current family plan, keep the phone for a few days past the cancellation period, and cancel, I'd have the following costs:

$199 - Moto Droid phone
$175 - cancellation fee
$40 - 1 month of add a line + data plan (10+30)

I used to work at Best Buy wireless department (right before it turned into Best Buy Mobile) and I know people have had this work in the past. I'm figuring $415 is going to be less than the $500-$600 retail they'll probably ask for this phone.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Did you figure in tax on the phone?

$12 additional on phone and maybe $7 taxes on first month's bill - not too concerned with that. Just wondering if everything will work or not.

If you keep it for more than three days. I just love how there is always a crook out there willing to screw someone out of their commission. There is just no honesty and integrity left in this world. 😢

Crook? That is a bit extreme but having been in commissioned sales for six years I understand where you are coming from.

Ummm why not just pay FULL RETAIL for the phone. Its the same cost as what your thinking of doing anyway and a lot less hastle.

Why even keep the line for a month? Activate it two days before your billing cycle and cancel it the next day. If you decide to do it activate before the 15th of November when the ETF on advanced devices doubles.

heh, and this is the reason the ETF is going up ;) Stupid part is that the ETF isnt changing for corporate accounts which dont have activation fees, so they can do this even cheaper.
