WiFi
OK. this may sound like a dumb question to those of you that have been using "smart" phones for awhile, but assuming that I am in an area that has good network coverage, and that I don't use anywhere near my data plan maximum each month, what is the advantage of using WiFi on this phone? I usually leave it turned off to save on battery life. I assume there is some advantage to using it because everyone makes a big deal about it, but I'd like to know what that advantage is. Thanks.

The difference is wifi is a little faster and more solid on most phones the problem wth the droid is it can't stay connected to either or.. I test the connection everynight since the release of the phone since I stream podcasts to a bluetooth speaker that I fall asleep to not one night has the phone been able to stream audio on my solid wifi connection for more than a few minutes..if your still within ur 30 days return it for the envtouch or something that works alittle better

WiFi is going to be faster, in general, even compared to good 3G coverage.
However, nothing stops you from only turning on WiFi when you need/want it. WiFi will only really drain battery if it is doing something, which means it has to be set to scan for open networks. Otherwise, it won't do anything unless it is in range of a known network (it will scan periodically for known networks, but it really is not much of a battery hog.)
In my experience, using WiFi will use LESS battery than a 3G connection, for streaming data, but it doesn't seem like you have that problem.

ok so check this...say i have a wifi connection at my house but i have a password set to be able to connect to it....will my phone make me put in that password before connecting to that wifi connection??? does the device automatically let you know when it finds a wifi network available?, giving you the option to choose between 2 different wifi networks if available!!!!????THANKS

You will have to enter the password to connect the first time.
Once you have connected, just like a computer, it will keep a list of memorized networks.
It will connect automatically to saved networks when they are in range, and you can customize the preference order. It won't ask you, though, if more than one is in range, it will simply connected to the highest priority one.
Using an app like Location, you can actually configure it to change all sorts of settings, including preferred networks, based on your GPS and/or what WiFi nets are available, but lots of people complain that when running location it is a battery hog.

ok kool i really appreciate that...so network notifications in network settings will have the phone tell me when it feels there is a wifi network available for use in my area correct? man this phone really was a miracle waiting to happen 😁 i LOVE my DROID 😁 unlike vaginaBOY 🤣 and while vaginaBOY says repeatedly that the droid doesent..IT INFACT DOES!!! 😲

also....i was just trying to set that up and in order to have it tell me when a network is available i have to have my wifi on at all times....will this drain my battery if the wifi is not in use but on??? i kinda wish it would tell me even when the wifi is off but tell u a network is available for you to turn the wifi on if you wanted...dam i love this phone more and more every day 😁

Wifi will use battery. If it isn't in use, it scans (roughly) once every minute or two, which doesn't take much.
If it connects, it uses more, because it has to keep the transmitter and receiver on all the time.
If you have the widget, it is an easy compromise, because you can turn on the wifi pretty easily when you want it, without having it on when you don't need it (or want it).
