now have confiration on 2.1
after about 40mins on the phone with verizon, i have confirmed us citizens WILL NOT BE RECIEVING THE 2.1 UPDATE AT ALL!! do to contractual requirments from motorola sucks but its true!!

funny, I was just talking to a rep today, and he indicated that once they work the bugs out, they'll release it, and pointed out that it's better they catch the bugs BEFORE the release it to the masses than AFTER. I tend to agree.
If you really want 2.1, there's at least two leaked versions out there that I know of, and that's only scratching the surface. I know of several cobbled together versions as well.

Has anyone tried what is suggested on the site that this link goes to? I have tried to do it using both links to the update file and when I try to install it, the installation is aborted.

I used androidcentral's link, and it worked just fine for me, so I didn't both going to that site.
But I can confirm that it is possible to manually force the update by grabbing it direct from google...
I'm a bit surprised you haven't gotten it OTA yet, though, by now. Then again, that might speak to the number of devices verizon has moved, too.

Man, thanks for telling me! I had no ideas NJ wasn't part of the US anymore. Since I got my 2.1 today, that's got to be the explanation, right?

It's not based on geographic area. It's done in batches sorted by ESN. There's no way to predict when it would be pushed to a specific phone.
