Any difference in buying Eris now or after 2.0 or 2.1 update?

I want to buy a Verizon Android phone in the next few months and am very interested in the Eris but wanted the Google navigation. Now that the update has been announced would there be any difference in buying the current Eris now and getting the update when it comes out.

Or would it be better to wait and get an Eris that is sold after the update?

I don't mind waiting if there is a benefit.

Thanks to all.

I don't see what any benefit to waiting would be. HTC will make the update available for Verizon to push via an over the air update. From what I've read HTC is making sure everything works right with Eris, 2/2.1 & Sense UI before they release it.

So if you want Google Nav you'll have to wait anyway but why not get the Eris now, get familiar with it and enjoy the Nav when the update comes out. I bought my Eris knowing it would get updated soon, love the phone, looking forward to it being even better once the upgrade hits.

Sam,will the Sense UI become available at the same time as the Google Navigation?
Many thanks for your help.

The Sense User Interface is already on the Eris. It's running Android 1.5 with HTC's Sense UI on top of it. HTC had to update the Sense UI to work with Android vr2.

Sense UI was the primary reason for the delay. It's definitely coming with the 2.0 or 2.1 release. I bought my device on launch day, as I was very confident that Eris would be getting the update.
