And another -- thanks so much for your help! -- I downloaded the Handcent SMS app and the fonts as well, but when I did that, every time I would get a message it would come in twice, and give me the options to answer the text using the stock messaging or the Handcent messaging (which I could then set up as iphone or Android style, etc.) There seemed to be no way to stop this double-messaging, so I just deleted the Handcent apps but I really liked them.

That's because each individual messaging app has its own notification system. To stop the "double message" from coming in, simply go into Messages, then hit Menu and choose Settings. Scroll down and uncheck Notifications.
