is there any way to take off.....
the service provider and date from the desktop of the phone...it would be great if I could do that, thought I can't quite figure it out

I want to take all those lame sounds and pictures off my phone...I know it's not impossible but I dont know how to do it. any help with either of these problems would be appreciated

You cannot take the sound or pictures off the phone if they came with the phone; the manufacturer have them locked into the system. Only customizable pictures or sounds that had been added since activation can be deleted.

You cannot remove either the service provider or the date, The reason why you cannot remove the serivce provider is that it is called an alpha tag, it lets you know whose network you phone is curently registering off of. Most wireless companies now adays have roaming agreements so it is not that important to know whose tower you are on, but i know for ATT, if you have a mobile to mobile feature you must be on the ATT/Cingular network to qualify for a m2m call.
