why not name it the droid 2....or droid 1.5....or sumthin along those lines...but the devour is ugly..should have been black lol silver is so old
...
Not every phone needs to looks like the iPhone... I actually like the silver.

Okay man, you should really read the actual specs on the phone before making a comment like this. Maybe if you had suggested that they name the phone Droid 0.5, i would have made sense. This phone Technically speaking is significantly inferior to the motorola droid. The droid operating system version, camera, screen resolution, processor, SD card memory size, etc is all superior. This phone was never intended to be in any way the successor to the droid. It is just a moto android phone designed for the more economically conservative consumer.
You should really pay more attention to specs than looks. Moto tends to put physical keyboards on all of their Android phones.

i read the spec and i know its inferior to the droid i was just asking why they didnt name it the droid...it would have made more sense
...
why would they call in the Droid 2 when it's not an update?
It's clearly a lesser model.
Doesn't make sense.
As a VZW sales consultant, these phones need to have different names.
Everyone doesn't live & breathe phones like the ppl on this forum and it's annoying when you ask a customer what phone they have and they say "Motorola" "LG" or more recently "droid?" When manufacturers started giving models interesting names helped ppl identify their phones.

Ya this Lp pretty much made the point i was trying to make. Hopefully you understand what i meant. I what you were saying about phones needing unique names, i tool sell Verizon, I work for BBM, so I am an agent. Adding to it, I personally hate the fact that Moto named their android phone the 'droid.' I cant tell you how many customers come in hearing a sale for a Android phone and they confuse it with the droid. We will have the droid eris for 100 and they always think that means they can get the droid for 100. Really wish they would have had a more creative advertising dept.
...
First, Motorola didn't WANT to name the phone 'Droid'. The name stuck due to the fact that everyone referred to the phone as Droid. It WAS supposed to be Sholes. DROID, more specifically, is the name of Verizon's Android lineup.
Second...please, for the love of God, tell me that English isn't your native language. You completely abandonded any known existance of the English language! It did make me laugh, tho'.
...
make you all at ease, the names are as follows, droid, droid eris, droid devour, droid incredible... so when you refer to them (starter of thread) they are indeed droids just have a 2nd name attached to differentiate the models from each other... so when you asked why don't they name it droid..... they did.
...
no...they named it the devour, the motorola devour...i dont know where you see the word droid but umm...its not in the name
...
THANK YOU, ALL2020.
I'm with you on this 110%. I also hate when I ask a customer, "What phone do you have?" and they tell me VERIZON. No kidding?
Or else when someone doesn't know the type of phone and the respond with 'LG' or 'Samsung', and then I probe them with more questions and they say, "You know, the blue one that flips with the camera." Wow. That's all I have to say. W - O - W.
...
so i file insurance claims for VZW through asurion and i am SOOOOO sick of asking, so what type of phone do you have and the response is....its a motorola, ok, what type of motorola....one of dem regoola flip ones....OMG!! do you know that Motorola makes HUNDREDS of phones all the way from a Moto RZRV9M to the Motorola Droid X??? i always say...i need you to contact VZW to find out the MODEL of your phone before we can proceed with the claim, they get pissed but I am not losing my job because you know you paid $500 for the phone but can NOT remember what its called
...
I like the silver myself. Not everything needs to look like the Droid. This seems pretty cool. I have the Eris and absolutely LOVE it. Glad to see Motorola making a semi-comeback.
...
I don't mind the naming, but I have to agree on the color. Went a conference recently and they let us all take a look at the new hype and really, it does look cheap. If it were a glossy silver it may not look too bad..but the matte finish type just kind of ruins the look. Then again, this is why they make cases/snap-on's for phones...for those who won't the phone but not the color. 🙂
