LG Ally / Apex / Axis
DELAYED !
I went to the verizon store today and asked about the ALLY. They said it was delayed and there was no idea of when it WAS going to be released. The verizon rep told me that it would not be worth the wait as he said that LG basically pushed it into production and released it too quickly. He said that he had tried it and was not impressed with it at all. He told me that I'd be MUCH MUCH better off with the Motorola Droid.
Now the buy one get one free on the droid (I have multiple lines to upgrade) is over on the 26th.....maybe that's when they'll release the ALLY and lower the price on the droid???

I have pre-ordered the Ally and recieved an e-mail from Verizon stating the new launch date is the 27th.

The ally is the cheap phone. like we've told you multiple times. It is not in the same class as the Droid/Incredible. It's more comparable to the Devour or the backflip on att.
Get the droid's It's better in basically EVERY category (besides the physical keyboard).

It's still priced $100 LESS than the Droid. For those who desire a slide out keyboard, it so far look like the ticket.
I hung out with someone last night who got the Incredible last week to compare with his iPhone 3Gs. He says the Incredible flies speed wise in comparison to the iPhone's AT&T service.
But he's so disgusted with the Incredible's battery life that he's actually thinking of returning it. "It can't even last the day. I have to carry the charger around with me everywhere I go". And on that note, I'd have to agree with him.

The ally is still a great deal. Kendalish is just expecting the droid to drop in price to compete with it. They're not in the same class.
The incredible does have lower battery life, but you should still be able to get a day. here are some general tips for android (especially if you are coming from an iphone)
-Make sure you have Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS turned off whenever you're not using them. If you intend on doing heavy browsing, use wifi, otherwise, keep it turned OFF. This can all be managed with the "power control" widget.
-Set the screen timeout delay to something usable. Generally, anything more than 1minute is going to be wasting energy as your hands should do SOMETHING to the screen within a minute if you are active...

Menno--I am not expecting the droid to compete with the ALLY. I posted asking about it . I don't know alot about the droid so I wouldn't know or expect it to compete. I was just meant that alot of times when a new device comes out, the older ones come down in price. I had no idea how much better the droid is which is why I posted the message.

I have the Storm 2 and thought I could get used to that touch keyboard but I just cannot.

The keyboard on the droid is a lot different than the storm 2. The storm 2's keyboard is nowhere near as fast. The droid's physical keyboard is better than the storm2's IMO.

Menno--Do you mind me asking which phone you had before the droid and if /how long it took you to get used to the keyboard on the droid? I mean the physical slide out keyboard (which I need--don't like touch keyboards as I've found out by owning the storm 2).
The keyboard on the droid just seems so close and it being a flat keyboard I am concerned I will have trouble with that too.

I had the blackberry tour (which, if you're wondering, has the best physical keyboard I've used)
When I switched to the Droid I would go back and forth between the physical keypad (It's usable, just not amazing like a blackberry) and the onscreen keyboard. Using the onscreen keyboard only for quick searches and the physical one for texts. The physical keyboard works fine. It's not like a blackberry, and you won't be as fast on it as you would a tour, but It's totally usable. I was comfortable with it within two weeks.
about a month or so in I started using the onscreen keyboard almost exclusively. Now that I downloaded Smart Keyboard pro (a couple bucks from the market place) the only time I slide open the keyboard is if I am play...

btw I would take the experience on the storm2's on screen keyboard and compare it to anything with a capacitive display. First off you don't have to click the screen. The display on the droid/eris/incredible is so acurate it blows everything else out of the water. As far as onscreen keyboards go, stock android is ok, but htc's keyboard is great. Whats even better than those is SWYPE. After using it for ten minutes I was like "How did I ever text without this!" Get it, try it, and LOVE IT!

Swype still isn't officially available for android devices in the market.
I liked swype for texting, but for anything longer I prefer the normal keyboard. if I could choose the keyboard per app, I would definitely still use swype.

And if swype has anything to do with it, it won't be available "officially" on the market ever. Per one of there customer service reps: "currently our business model is to make swype available as a native application to come direct from the factory, and preloaded on the phone. We do currently offer a beta program for android devices that you can sign up for blah blah blah...."
Longer than a text message? Email maybe? Yeah I don't write that many emails. I mostly send links or short responses via email. Swype is just so much faster.
