You can tether for free!!!!
I downloaded the HTC sync software for the EVO from HTC and used the provided data cord. I plugged in the phone into my Windows 7 enabled laptop and it automatically recognized the connection. Free tethering for all!

How? I am on Windows 7 and it tells me that my PCS vision username/password doesn't work.

You must use the cable to hard tether it. When you plug in the usb, select the tether option. You have to pay for the wifi mode.

Right, I understand the cable. It didn't work with the cable. When I plugged it into the laptop, Evo asked me to select 1 of the 4 options. I choose internet sharing and it did it's thing. Then, error 67 appeared telling me that the PCS vision user name/password is wrong.

All you gotta do is download the pdanet app from android marketplace and use that.. Piece of cake.. I tether all the time with my hero

but the pdanet app disallows secure websites unless the app is purchased. I might just buckle down and buy, however.
