No, it will be an unlocked phone. That's why it has all 5 3G bands, so any GSM carrier you choose you'll still have 3G speeds

T-Mobile could end up carrying it, but I somehow doubt it. A phone like this will probably continue to be picked up carriers in Europe but not in the states.

As much as I would whole-heartedly want T-Mobile to heavily subsidise my purchase of the N8 I fear their customisation of the firmware would not be limited to adding links to T-Zones and synchronising my address book. I fear they will limit or remove some functionality. For example, the 6133 shipped without irda. Would some 'non-essential' feature like HDMI output be removed?

As pointed out in earlier posts it will work just fine with T-Mobile as an unlocked device.

Although it works with t-mobile can anyone confirm it will work with the US high speed network t-mobile is rolling out "HSPA+" or sometimes called 3.75G.

I currently have a N95 thats a 3G phone but only works on the EDGE network on t-mobile here in the USA.

Before purchasing, I want to be sure the N8 will be able to take advantage of the fastest speeds t-mobile offers today and down the road for a while...

It works on HSPA on AT&T and T-Mobile. I think it is 10.2 download speeds on all 5 3G bands.

Ok, I'm not an expert but after a lot of reading at wikipedia I've uncovered interesting information about this phone on t-mobiles network. Now i have conflicting data that has caused confusion.

HSUPA Cat 9 (whats inside the N8 ) is not the same as HSPA+ (what T-Mobile uses).

"HSUPA Cat 9" can reach speeds up to about 10.1mb.

According to the N8 spec sheet, this is the technology uses.

"HSPA+" can reach speeds around 21mb.

According to T-Mobile specs, This is the technology T-Mobile is rolling out in it's US markets.

So i'm back to the original question. I need real data that clearly shows what kind of connection and performanc...

so here is an update: I just received my N8:00
Here is the results i get from mobilespeedtest.com

The connection icon lights up saying i'm connected to 3.5G. The speed results are pretty consistent. No where near 21mb but fast enough for most things i'd want to do on the phone.

Now the bad news. The phone has issues. Lots of SW bugs around email. IMHO, Clunky interface and just overall disappointing. I'm coming from a N95 that has been a dream to use over the last 3 years. The OS is dated but for it's time it was great. The OS on the N8 seems to be more work, a lot more clicking to do the same work and overall clunky in comparison to other smartphones I've seen. The N8's...
