Antivirus?
I have seen countless apps in the Market that provide anti virus protection, one (lockout) by Verizon themselves. Yes, I understand the purpose of these programs being in the IT field. However, I have to ask is anyone using them? I guess the answer might be yes. But the reason for this post is to ask why?
It's very possible I am missing something since I know little about the Android operating system. But thus far I have heard of no infections or attempts to infect a "phone". Nor do I know if it's even possible. I am guessing yes it's possible like most things if people want to me mischievous and are determined.

It's much more significant, of course, with a phone like the Droid line, because as smart phones, they are far more likely to have more personal information, which also tends to make them more of a target. On the other hand, of course, you have the consideration that because Android is built on Linux, it is inherently much more secure than many other phone...

Similar to a Droid/Smartphone attack. Sure you may be successful in getting some info from those who have it. But again your target audience...

I agree with most of what you said, but I have to quibble with this point. this is a recurring theme among windows/Microsoft supporters, and it is simply not true.
The reality is that there are more viruses for Windows because there are more vulnerabilities in windows than in other operating systems, especially Linux. This can be easily proved if you consider the number of servers, a large majority of which do NOT run...
