Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S)
Wish it was the Galaxy S Pro
like Sprint's Epic 4G. I've been waiting forever for a fast Android phone with a keyboard to replace my G1. The Sprint version has all the right features, but I still need a GSM phone, not a US-only CDMA thing.
Getting really tired of waiting. (And still don't want to switch to Verizon or Sprint - they seem to have the better phones right now, but I still need something that works when I travel to Europe too, and I don't want to carry multiple phones, because that still means I'll have an inferior phone when I'm on the road.)

What are you waiting for? The MyTouch 3G slide has a physical keyboard, is a fast android phone, and it has the genius button which allows you to enter almost everything by speaking. The speech to text Dragon dictation is amazingly accurate...not perfect, of course, but pretty darn good. I have been very impressed with this phone.

Hm, the MyTouch 3G slide has the same size/rez screen as the G1, so that's not an upgrade. The CPU is only 10% faster than the G1, so that's an imperceptible upgrade. The keyboard layout is inferior to the G1, so that's a loss. Overall it has nothing to entice a G1 owner into switching.

The truth is there's nothing like experience when choosing a new phone. And I totally understand your wanting a significant improvement if you're going to change phones. That's one of the great things about T-Mobile...you can try as many phones as you want for two weeks at a time. I tried the G1 when it first came out. It's pretty apparent you've made your mind up already. So I'll just respond for others who might read this thread. The my touch 3G slide is a significant improvement over the G1. The comparison of keyboards is a moot point. I don't even remember the G1 having a physical keyboard it was so long ago. The "speech to text" features of the my touch slide are so accurate I have hardly typed since I got the phone. Between the genius...

while it is an improvement, i wouldnt go as far as to say 'significant'. the galaxy s, however, is... it just needs a physical keyboard. those of us with gorilla hands need it ☹️

I understand exactly what you're saying. That was a big reason I went with the my touch 3G Slide. But the incredible thing is, that with the speech to text capability, I rarely use the physical keyboard. I understand that the Samsung vibrant has speech to text capability. I do not know about the galaxy s pro, but I would imagine it does. I use it for all my texting and for writing notes...everything I would normally write...I use speech to text capability. The difficult thing is, of course, jumping right to a phone without a physical keyboard. That would be quite a leap. Good luck.

Just wait another month or two for the G1 Blaze (i think they are calling it) to come out. From what I was told from a HTC rep, "it will be a beast". Most likely t-mobile's first HSPA+ handset... that or the mytouch HD at least.
