Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S)
Does anyone know if the Vibrant had different variations released???
I bought three used Samsung Vibrants off of Craigslist in the past month and I just noticed that the one I have been using looks allot like the GalaxyS 4G version. They all have the two "eyes" located to the left of the speaker but, the one I have been using has what appears to be a camera hole to the right just like the 4G. Is it possible that I bought a 4G phone? The software says that it is a Vibrant but, I wanted to know if perhaps the phone could have been flashed that way? Is there a way to clone the 4G software and install it on my phone if it is in fact a 4G? I keep looking at the supplied photos and the Vibrant does not show this additional camera hole on the right, it's only on the GalaxyS 4G. Are there variations on the Vibrant mo...

It's pretty easy to expose the hole. There are many videos showing how to do it. I almost modded my Vibrant this way to install the camera for the GT-I9000, but didn't because I was worried about how I would return my phone if I messed it up. You may have got a phone that had this done to it.
If you feel brave enough, watch some of the videos on how to take the back off of the phone to see if there is a front facing camera and if so, which one it is. It could be the GT-I9000 or the GalaxyS 4G camera.
There are many ROMs now that support front facing cameras, but most have slight banding in low light conditions. Search for FFC mods at XDA Developers for more info.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not brave enough yet to ruin it by trying to take it apart. The hole looks pretty good and The "otterbox" case I have already has the cutout in the case as if there were a camera for this model. I downloaded a mirrir app. to see if the camera was installed and got this message: "An error occured while trying to open the Front Facing Camera. The camera preview could not be started. Please try again and contact support if the problem perststs." I'm guessing that means that the camera has not been installed yet? I installed Z-Test and it's not detecting a secondary camera so I guess, according to the software, I don't have one. It's not that big of a deal really but, I just had been reading about everything this phone ha...
