Requires data plan

If you want to upgrade to this phone, you must purchase a data plan. This does not make any sense, the i886 is not a smart phone, therefore why does it need a data plan? If I were to have the data package, I would certainly not be purchasing the i886 due to limited funtionality!
Nextel Customer Service is not helpful at all in this matter. They agreed it is not a smart phone, but indicated your phone plan has to have the data package otherwise you are not allowed to upgrade to the i886 unless you add the data plan.
What a joke!

We were able to activate one at my store for a customer that was on the $30 200 minute plan the other day. Also if you look online it shows multiple plans that you can activate new service on this phone too.

RE: "Nextel Customer Service is not helpful at all in this matter..."
>>> To make it perfectly clear, what you received was NOT "Nextel Customer Service", what you received was SPRINT Customer Service. The difference is night & day.
Sprint over Nextel back in 2005/2006 and they immediately shoved the Nextel way of customer service out the door.
If you had actually spoken with the true, original Nextel CS (i.e. 5-6 years ago), you would have been treated with respect and intelligence and your problem would have been solved within the first call.

Wow you are a smart one. You dont have to activate it on a data plan. You can put it on the basic 200, talk 450, everything messgaing 450, or the data 450, as long as it is a new plan you can actiavte it. So no more free incoming or fair and flexable or any old plan
