Motorola Droid 2
I do not recommend this phone
Coming from the original Droid, this phone is a major let down.
I got the droid 2, thinking it was just going to be a minor improvement. The lag on changing screens and opening and closing apps, and the lag in the browser adjusting were all minor annoyances so I figured I would upgrade as this phone has more memory and a faster processor...
Moto claims it listed to its customers to design this phone, but I highly doubt that. Rather than sticking with the stock android UI, they desided to overlay Blur on it. As many people know, Blur sucks, but I am sure moto spent too much money on it to admit that it sucks, so they instead force it on their customers to ruin phones... basic corporate stupidity.
So I went in to getting this phone ...

If you're just looking for the baddest-ass Android phone on Verizon that money can buy, we'd recommend a Droid X or Droid Incredible any day over this, especially since all three are the same price -- unless you're hell-bent on going with a physical keyboard, of course. I played with this phone at length in the verizon store and it's a total piece of garbage. If this is what droid users are raving about than I'm at a loss. Again, I'm not loyal to any one brand or OS but you can begin to compare this to the Palm Pre or an Iphone. Its not even the same ballpark.
The thing is slow, unresponsive and unintuitive. I really hope this doesn't reflect droid at it's best because I'd rather have a dumb phone than this crap.

I agree out of the box the thing is awful, but I have a friend with one. We removed all the widgets from the device to start, and then added back only the ones he needed, and the device wasn't that bad from then on.
Motorola's problem is that they fill EVERY SCREEN with widgets, where if you look at typical users (who they are marketing to with this phone) they'll use 1 maybe 2 screens worth of app shortcuts.

my experience has been the complete opposite. no lag, blur is NOT intrusive (you can customize it to use as much or as little blur as you want), and all my apps and phone functions furn smooth. you may just have a bad phone.

perhaps, but all people have to do is a longpress and a quick swipe into the rubbish...helps to get to know the phone first before complaining 😉

lol are you serious? sad. for all the people complaining about the D2, mine was a little choppy after the first charge but ever since then (for some unknown but welcome reason), it's worked perfectly. download ATK and you won't have unnecessary apps running in the background.

atk is evil. on a device running 2.1, let alone 2.2, there is no reason to use it (I also don;t think it works in froyo anyway)
and those apps WILL run, even if you kill them with atk. This is because android auto starts up recently used apps if you have free memory.
Android's buit in task killer is amazing. if an app slows down your phone, delete the app because it's poorly coded.
Like I said, I don't think that Froyo allows ATK to work anyway, but even if it does it is the cause of a good chunk of the "OS issues." (it exponentially increases the number of force closes you get)

atk is evil? I am still on the droid 1 (thinking about upgrading to d2) with the 2.2 update and still use atk. I have noticed that froyo will open my programs back up (which is super annoying) I dont like this feature of 2.2 so i routinely kill apps many many times a day. is there a way to turn off this feature?

what's slowing your phone down is ATK, NOT 2.2. and ATK won't even work with 2.2 because google closed off that API to keep people from accidentally destroying their phones.
Atk corrupts your file system, causing errors (force closes, sluggish performance, etc) if you use it frequently. Unfortunately the only way to undo what ATK does to your phone is to do a full factory reset.
The D1 is fast enough to run 2.2 flawlessly (it's running great on my dad's phone). but he also never ran ATK.

Menno is absolutely correct about not needing any task killer type apps on 2.2. I read an article written by a Google engineer that specifically said what Menno is saying about 2.2 not needing any task killer. Since I removed it my battery life has almost doubled and the phone runs smooth as silk. Also, you really do need to clean out most of the widgets that come pre loaded on your phone when you get it, but that's just common sense.

we didn't remove the apps, just removed the widgets. the only way to remove the apps is by rooting, which voids your warranty
