I think that has something to do with the hardware specs mandated by Microsoft. There's a "chassis" spec that Microsoft dictates, which is designed to:
1. Set minimum specs and features, so all Windows Phone devices deliver a "premium" experience.
2. Simplify the platform by standardizing the hardware to some degree.
That second one is where is get tricky. In theory, it's a good thing, but it can have negative consequences as well.
You see, a big part of what slowed down Microsoft Windows Mobile (5 - 6.5) development toward the end was that they had to support a large number of different chipsets, screen sizes, etc. Plus each carrier had their own customizations and testing process. You have to remember that the early versions of Android did not have swype either. This version of Windows is less than a year old and is growing. There are supposed to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 additions and changes in the next update, Mango, that is due out this fall. If you compare Android 1.3 to 2.3, you will see all kinds of changes to the OS. And those changes have taken years to come across. Give the Windows OS some time and it will be competitive with Android.

actually this phone is HSPA,
unfortunately its not the highest speed of hspa
but its HSPA 7.2 where as the one it should have is 14.4 still a fast phone.
