It's because people are dumping this piece of crap in droves!!!
After a SIXTH one started going kaflooey with all the lockups, freezes, intermittent lags going from screen to screen or making calls from the call log all to the point where it became unusable, I called Verizon (for about the 50th time since I became a Droid Charge owner, no joke, no exaggeration!) and they moved up my upgrade from next January to now. I walked into a VZW store and when those sales people who scoop you up on the way in said "Welcome to Verizon, How Can We Help You?" I held up this expensive paperweight as said "You Can Take This Piece of Chit Out Of My Life!" They all chuckled as if they knew where I was coming from.

Wow, I have this phone as a replacement to the Bionic. This phone is, as you mention, horrible. I can sit and watch the battery die. It shuts itself off and won't come back, then it comes back on its own. It is very slow. In fact, I may not want another Android phone after having the Bionic and now the Charge. I still have a year on my contract or I would probably migrate from Verizon to Sprint. I don't know any reproducible problem with this phone that I could take to Verizon, but I sure do hate it.
