make and answer calls with clamshell closed
I’m impressed with this phone but I can’t believe how bad the manual is. This is my first serious cell phone so maybe I haven’t been “schooled” in the art of reading cell phone manuals but here are some examples of common things you need to do that are never mentioned anywhere in the manual (and I even searched the electronic version):
- how to turn speakerphone on or off
- how to turn vibrate mode on or off
I would love a "real" manual that tells me about the things I actually want to do with this phone and explains the features in detail (instead of one liners).

unfortunately, you cannot place or receive a call with the phone closed. You CAN use the headset, open the phone, hit SEND and then close the phone.
As for manner mode (vibrate) all you have to do is hold down the * key. hold it down a 2nd time to take it to silent mode (which is no ring, no vibrate), and hold it down a 3rd time to take it back to ring.
Speakerphone is activated by holding down the blue OK button during a call. If you have any other questions let me know, I've owned 3 different LGs, including this one! 😎

Activate driving mode - then, with the clamshell closed, push the voice command key, put the phone down and talk. Hands free speaker phone function without flipping the phone open.

DoH - never mind 🤭 Still need the flip open even in driving mode with voice commands (I thought I'd made it work closed before, but obviously was thinking of something else).

If you have an earpiece (w/ microphone) plugged in, you can access driving mode and use the phone with the clamshell closed by clicking the driving mode button on the side of the phone. After all, driving mode should be used "hands free" shouldn't it? This makes sense to me. I don't know how it behaves if you don't have a microphone on your earpiece. I would guess not very well.
If the earpiece is not plugged in, the driving mode button functions as a toggle switch.
I was hoping you could access voice commands without touching the phone (i.e. by clicking the earpiece button), I guess LG will have to add this "feature" next round. You can only get re-dial with the earpiece button, which does nothing for me.
