LG VX-4600
vibrate only mode
Got the 4600 today and so far its a pretty nifty phone. Cool scrolling front screen that turns off after a user-set interval but will show the time/date with a push of a side button. One thing I can't figure out: the ringer can be set for "silent", "low", "med low", "med",
"med high", or "vib + high" but apparently not VIBRATE ONLY. I know I must be missing something because the "vibrate only" mode is standard today. Nothing in the manual or online that I can find to explain this. I'm gonna talk to the Verizon rep tomorrow, but I'd though I'd check with other users. Thanks for any input!

OK, I'm responding to my own question! Just found in the 100+ page manual a section on "manner mode": pressing and holding the * key (or the voice dial key when the phone is closed) activates the "manner mode", AKA vibrate only. When all else fails, RTFM....

you are right about manner mode, but they actually DO offer both "vibrate only" and manner mode on the 6000. i believe they stopped offering both with the release of the 4500. the difference is that manner mode will cause ANY AND ALL incoming allerts to vibrate, while "vibrate only" was given as an option to ONLY have incoming calls vibrate. that way, if a user wanted to, they could set incoming calls to vibrate and messages to ring if they wanted it. i know this sounds confusing, but yes there is a slight difference between the 2 options. does it really matter, not at all to the average person. i just wanted to explain the difference though...

Thanks for the info. For me anyway, the manner mode only option on the 4600 really doesn't matter. I suppose that power users might appreciate the difference but it's a minor thing to me if ALL incoming alerts are set to vibrate.
I've had the 4600 for about two weeks now and am very happy with it. Very intuitive menu, voice dialing that sets up easily, and access to phone book entries WAY faster than my Motorola T720. I have no use for the camera on the 6000 (can't make phone calls on my cameras either) and didn't
care for the odd shape of the 4500, so the 4600 does the trick for me. For those of you out there who are having trouble purchasing the phone, try a Verizon authorized dealer who is NOT a company store. I got mine in Philadelph...

For me it's a major issue. There is no excuse to eliminate this important feature.
Manner Mode will - besides vibrating incoming calls - turn off the key beeps, message alerts, and everything. It's nothing but just plain stupid!
I can not understand for what reason LG decided to stop featuring vibrate mode, while it's standard today on all other phones!
I really hope LG will have a fix (upgrade) for this. I'm sure most people will have a problem with this phone if no vibration mode is offered!

This is a large problem for me too. I don't like to turn the volume of the ringer up as high as it goes just to turn on the vibration. For me, I like to know my phone is ringing without letting all of Borders know it. A vibration feature that goes off before the phone starts ringing would be extremely helpful. A vibration along with the ringer would also be nice when driving with the music on or in a busy situation. One can only hope that LG reads this and makes an update or someone figures out a solution. Please let me know if anything comes up.
