I'm curious --IF-- SE is really, really serious about launching this on multiple carriers and making it successful. SE really isn't all that different from Nokia, their high-end handsets don't ever, ever reach the U.S.

because they do not do cdma variants and they always seem to to approach at&t first and at&t says make it cheaper and both companies say no. so at&t says, we'll take all this stuff over here out and add this to it, and they both say no. i truly think at&t is the reason both cmopanies aren't bigger here than they are......

Essentially along the same lines as your post is what I heard as the rumored reason for ATT never picking up the revolutionary Nokia N95.

But there is indeed a CDMA variant of the SE Playstation phone that will be launching on Verizon.
So perhaps SE is taking a different, more broader approach to this launch.

As far as FFVII goes, from what I can see from the specs you could probably run a psx emulator with a FFVII rom on it anyway. If you mod the controls in the emulator you could probably make it work the controls on this phone.
