Battery Life is Unacceptable

First of all, I love the features of this phone. Unfortunately, the battery life negates any advantages of this otherwise awesome phone. I thought I had the problem solved by turning off the data connection until I needed it. That seemed to work for a couple of days, but now it's back to its normal battery drain. I've tried every possible solution I could find and nothing works. I have everything turned off or turned down and still the battery is averaging 10-20% drop per hour with NO USE. No calls, no texts, nothing. I just unlock the phone, check the battery hourly, and relock. Something is draining the battery and I hope Verizon will hear this and hopefully correct it. I wouldn't have bought this phone if I had known it wouldn't hold...

have you turned off global roaming? For me, with global roaming off, I can get close to 18 hours of moderate use, more than 12 of average use, and close to 8 of pretty heavy data use.

Menu > settings > Wireless & Network > Mobile Network Settings > Network Mode. Set to CDMA only. Unless you do a lot of global roaming that should fix the problem. I suspect that it has something to do with the fact that the phone can't lock onto the US GSM bands, so it spends a lot of time (and battery) searching for a GSM network that isn't there (similar to the battery problems of people with LTE phones in non-LTE areas) 😎

Thanks for the reply and help. I had turned off global roaming and set it to CDMA only last night. I hope that will make some difference. This morning it still dropped from 100% to 90% within 15 min of unplugging it. Unfortunately, this is consistent with its 10-15% hourly drop in standby I've been seeing every day.

What setting do you have in your Phone Info(*#*#4636#*#*)>Set Preferred Network Type? Mine is set to "CDMA auto (PRL)". Should it be set to "CDMA Only" instead?

Thanks

When I use the testing menu to get there (as you describe) it says "CDMA auto (PRL)" as yours. The only change I made to mine was in the mobile network off of the setting menu. Setting that to CDMA only made a world of difference. Everything else is pretty much stock...you CAN change background data and some things like that. You CAN go in and add things to the auto-kill list in the moto task manager that ships with it (works a LOT different than the auto kill in most task managers, though), but I haven't bothered to do any of that.

Oh, I did turn off wifi. It does attempt to auto-connect if it sees an open wifi (because wifi is less battery intensive than 3G, but constantly scanning for wifi is a drain, and that can cause data con...

Thanks very much for taking the time to help. After switching to CDMA, I also turned off Google location which I didn't realize worked much like GPS. After that, I made sure auto synch was switched off. Now, my battery is staying at 100% for 12+ hours in standby. This is great! Today I had 3 short calls and my battery still stayed on 100% for almost 12 hours. I'm not sure which one of the changes made the difference, but I'm happy now and glad I didn't sell it in my frustration.

Thanks again for your help.
