Is the internet available on the TREO 600
true internet or a limited version of the internet? Can I search most websites? Is the Sprint service slow? Please someone explain since I am considering buying this phone.

Yes, it is what I would call "true internet". You are still limimted because some sites will ask you to upgrade your browser to an IE of Navigator version. The only site where I experienced this was moviephone.com. Of course there are other movie sites you can visit. Of more importance to me was the ability to access https sites which it has done flawlessly with the JP Morgan Chase site.
Some people have complained about the "optimized view" which compresses the width pages to fit the Treo's screen so you only have to scroll up & down. I love this feature & you can always shut it off for sites such as mapquest where you may want to see the full details of all images. I would Highly reccomend it, but if you live in the NY area, I would wait ...
