I tried sending a picture at 640x480 to my friend with a V600. He received the picture at a smaller resolution (176x132). Is this normal for (motorola) camera phones to shrink pictures to send them? The same thing happened sending a pic from a C650 to my V300...

Yes, unfortunately because of the data transfer capabilities of phones, and high resolution picture will be compressed and sent. It's not a software problem, it's just the way it is.
