Nokia 3589i / 3587i

Hey, opened up one of the nokias' when we got them in last week here at the store and i noticed something odd about it. A Sim card slot? Why? Can anyone explain the purpose for this? The phone isn't quad band or anything, its not able to work with cdma and gsm frequencies. Was nokia just too lazy to take this slot out of a cdma version of one of their phones or whats the deal people?

my internal antenna is messed up because my back feel off and so did the thing that protects it...It's just above the battery. What could I do 2 fix it?

I put in a security code in my phone but then forgot the code! Can anyone help me... by the way it is a 3587i for alltel... i was told by the people at alltel that it would have to be reset but they cant do it and i would have to send it to nokia and i dont want to do that so please......HELP 😉

Given the great reviews, why did Verizon discontinue this phone?

Yes, the 6015i supposedly replaced it at Verizon. But why not offer two Nokia phones, instead of discontinuing one?

On the main screen of my Nokia 3587i it says "Alltel". I seem to remember on previous Nokias that you could change that text, but I cannot find out how to do it on this phone.

Anyone have any ideas?

Anyone have trouble with a DKU-5 data cable(third party) while using Verizon Wireless, haven't tried on my computer but when i plug the cell conector on the cable to the cellphone, it says the data connection is ready but then switches to enhancement not supported, is this a verizon thing or just me being to impatient and not hooking it up to my computer while confussing the phone? Please respond.

Has anyone else that used the Nokia 3589i
experienced bad sound quality from the ear piece? I have this whether talking to a land line caller or another cell caller. I love the durability of this phone and has great signal strength. But seems like I am always asking people to repeat themselves, and the louder I set the volume the worse it sounds...muffled. Thinking about upgrading to the Nokia 6015i, but I'm afraid I'll have the same issue.

does anybody know if the 3589i lets you set different rings for each person in your contact list?

I read the user guide and it looks like you can set a ring for each of 5 groups (Family, Friends, etc), but not for individuals. is that right?

basically, I'm trying to decide between the Kyocera KX414 and the 3589i. any wisdom?

I purchased this phone thru Verizon almost 3 months ago. When I had a msg waiting, the alert tone would beep every few minutes until the msg was retrieved. I really need this feature, because I cannot always get to my phone right away & need the audible reminder.
A few wks ago I noticed that when I had a msg waiting, it would only beep once. I thought I had messed up the settings & tried to fix it. No success, so I called Verizon & they said that on this model that this feature had changed to only one beep. This feature is standard on every phone I've ever had. Any advice?
Also, the backlight won't stay on long enough & Verizon said it can't be adjusted!

Is there a way to get games on this phone without using Get It Now, like a computer?

I love my 3589i but there's one problem: if the display is not lit, it's very difficult to read. Unfortunately, there's no "light" key to turn the light on. If I hit the end key and there was something on the screen (like a message telling me about missed calls or voice mail waiting), the message disappears. If I hit the send key, the phone brings up the recently dialed call list. There is no way to adjust the contrast for the display when it is NOT lit (I know there's one which adjusts the contrast when the phone is lit). I've never seen a phone with a display that is so hard to read without the light.

Am I missing something here? Please advise. Thanks a lot!

Does anyone know whether the Nokia 3589i ring through the headset. I am often in a very noisy environment and cannot count on hearing the phone ring or feeling it vibrate.

The users guide does not mention this either way, but I know that 8265 does. Unfortunately I cannot get that phone with Verizon.

Is there an external antenna on this phone? cause i can't see one and personally, I never really saw a nokia bar style phone such as this one with external antenna.
