PTT Question
🙄 Does anyone have the answer to this question? With all the direct connect technology going around (Nextel, Verizon, and now Sprint) will there, at some point, be a direct connect merge- Like a Sprint phone direct connecting with a Nextel. It might sound crazy to some but to me its only common sense because everyone is not going to have the same phone under the same company. I see it as, if you can call a Sprint phone with a Nextel, hope come you cant direct connect?

Probably not for a loooooooooooong time.. The Technology is different for PTT service is different for each carrier. and may not ever be compatible with each other without some huge delay times. Nextel will probably never be compatible with anyone else, being the fact they identify each other with a unique Direct connect code for each person. Sprint and Verizon use the mobile # to identify both the phone number and PTT number.

I think PTT is starting out like Text messaging. Remember when you could only text a phone on the same carrier as you? I think PTT will be the same.

As far as I know there will be no interchange carrier ptt. You will only be able to use ptt on your own network, ie. sprint ptt only on sprint network, verizon wireless ptt only on verizon network. On a national plan you need to be careful because the ptt will only work on the carrier's network, if you are off network, you will not be able to use the ptt feature. So before deciding which carrier to go with you might want to check out their home network.

Unforutnately, until SPCS and VZW start adding actual radio's into their phones, it will never happen.
Now, on the other hand, being that VZW and SPCS use the same exact software and hardware to do the PTT (Sorry, the company's name that supplies the technology has escaped me) it is a *VERY* good posibility. Infact, SPCS is already undergoing investigation to do so.
