should i be worried?
I hear cingular is pulling the v600 from its line up because of all the problems people are having with the phone.Since the a630 has the same specifications as the v600 should i still try to wait for this phone or assume that its goin to have all the troubble_the v600 has and try to buy another phone?
...
I talked to someone who claimed to be the regional manager for the Cingular stores in Seattle last week and he told me that Cingular has pushed back launch of the A630 until November so that they can get updated firmware. He mentioned the v600 problems and said that they will be getting updated firmware for that phone as well (but didn't mention a timeframe for the v600 update).
...
the issues with the v600 is that its 1900 mhz isnt as good as it could be...it mets the fcc's standards, but not cingular (as saith the grape vine that i hear)

actually it's a problem in the 850 band.

there is no firmware update for the V600 that I've heard of. Last I heard Cingular and Moto both were doing a recall to fix the reception quality. As for the a630 being pushed to Nov. I certainly hope not! I've been lookin forward to gettin to play with it, not to mention ditch my crappy v60.

It's entirely possible that the "firmware upgrade" is a misunderstanding on my part. The Cingular rep mentioned the recall and fixing various things, but translating that into a "firmware upgrade" could easily be an error on my part.
What can I say, it was lunch time and I was hungry. :-)
I've been looking forward to the A630 as well and was disappointed to hear of the delay, but if it means that it won't have some of the V600's existing problems it'll be worth the wait.
...
that's very true, if it avoids problems then I'm willing to wait a little longer. not like I'll be able to afford a $250 phone for a while anyway. still can't quite find an immediate job, and $$'s too tight to think about new phones and sh*te like that. 😢

so if its delayed n cingular does that mean its delayed for tmobile as well????????

The first run of V600s had Samsung displays in them, and then Sharp put in a more competetive bid to supply the displays to Motorola. Both displays met spec on paper and in beginning field testing, but when they were released into the wild, Motorola found that they were getting too many back because of RF issues. They concluded that the new displays were actually causing RF interference, and decided to pull them off the lines until they could get the Samsung displays back in them. It's my understanding that Cingular actually plans to re-release the V600 once that problem is fixed, but I don't imagine they will stick around long unless Motorola finds a way to manufacture them for much less money, considering the V3 release coming so soon.

What is RF?
