Not a good exclusive for Cingular

There are about six phones that Cingular has chosen for their exclusive handsets. The Motorola v551 was a good choice, but this phone, the SE z500a was a bust. People are beginning to find out that call quality is far from par and that the screen is more than just fuzzy. If you are in the market for a "Gadget" then this might be your phone.

It's no wonder Cingular has chose Nokia, Motorola, and LG to launch the first phones the end of 2005 for it's new UMTS network. Better days are ahead for Cingular customers.

I think this phone is great! I think the size might be a little bulky, but it has everything I expected from a SE phone. The software is really easy to navagate through and the display is nice. I wished the outer display had more colors to it though. The size of the phone I would at least expect a bigger screen inside and outside.

I agree with you, better days are ahead with the UMTS network coming out. Moto and Nokia should be coming out with some great phones!

Cingular's new WCDMA. Say thank you ATTWS. Since Cingular has none on it's own. Don't forget they did not launch GSM till 2004. ATTWS had it for 3 years. 😎

I work in a Cingular store that carries both the Z500 & the V551 & I've used both extensively in store. I don't understand what "supposedly" makes the v551 a gift from the cellular gods, while the z500 can eat @#$# & die.

I really like the z500. The only thing it lacks when being compared to the v551 is bluetooth. The camera/video quality is comparable. The price is lower than the v551. The screen resolution may be slightly lower, but not by much. The speakerphone function kicks butt over anything Motorola has on the market at this time. The speakerphone is louder AND maintains clarity better at high volumes. I have also noticed that in my store & in the surrounding area, the z500 gets better reception than the v551.

This phone is wonderful! It is an entry level phone that supports Picture Caller ID because of the color external display. Even the Motorola V551 does not have that feature. Yes the V551 has bluetooth, however, for many customers that is not a necessary feature. With a price of $50 after mail in rebate, vs. the Motorola V551 at $100 after mail in rebate, this phone is a better value for many customers. Not to mention, if you buy two, Cingular is currently doing a Buy One, Get One after mail in rebates promo on this phone (at least in Washington Baltimore). Talk about value.

It is a great phone. The rebate does not apply when only one of the z500's is purchased. It is only applicable with the BOGO prome they are offering.
