Sony Ericsson Z500
The Z500 really IS a good phone...
I work in a Cingular store that carries both the Z500 & the V551 & I've used both extensively in store. I don't understand what "supposedly" makes the v551 a gift from the cellular gods, while the z500 can eat @#$# & die.
I really like the z500. The only thing it lacks when being compared to the v551 is bluetooth. The camera/video quality is comparable. The price is lower than the v551. The screen resolution may be slightly lower, but not by much. The speakerphone function kicks butt over anything Motorola has on the market at this time. The speakerphone is louder AND maintains clarity better at high volumes. I have also noticed that in my store & in the surrounding area, the z500 ...

I don't know why people complain about it's size, but it just feels natural to hold and use, imo. I've had much smaller phones, but smaller isn't always better. I always felt uncomfortable speaking into a stick of gum sized phone.
Bluetooth isn't a necessity. Sure, wireless earpieces are convenient at times, but c’mon. Who wants to walk around with an earpiece hanging out of their ear where ever they go? Well, I guess if you work for the secret service. Connectivity to your PC is as easy as plugging in your USB cable.
For the price, this phone does the job and more.
The z500a is a decent phone but doesn't come close to the ability to personalize as
Motorola does and the Sony software is the pits.
Unlike Moto you can't have your own message ring tones, Sony has 6 installed and you have no choice.
It has only one alarm that can be set to sound everyday, the other must be reset all the time.
Transfering files, music and picture are difficult, I did get it going but it's an all day project, after every picture transfered I have to reset the phone so the software will see it, ring tones are even harder with the software from Sony.
I know of a commercial product but I don't want to risk losing money fear it may not work.
With Motorola I can do what I want,...

You can have your own message ring tones. Plus you have the music DJ to make even more ringtones. So you do have a choice.
As for the alarms how many do you need? If you need more you can always set it up in the calendar part and it will ring the same as an alarm.
Transfering files...Not a problem. Not an all day job, just a few minutes. I have never once had to reset the phone. What does that even mean?? I think that this is very easy phone to use and understand.
Oh well, to each is own.....
Actually you get 8 choices, including click or no sound. BUT 6 is plenty. I'm not into hearing the latest song on the radio, when I receive a text message.
One alarm? If you setup an appointment in the calendar, it in turn will be an alarm. 10 appts = 10 alarms.
Transferring files an all day project? Never been easier for me.
If you compare this phone($50) and it's features list (https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php? p=497) to anything Moto has at the same price, it can't be beat.
I'm not sure I agree with this. Appearance wise, I think both phones are pretty equally customizable. Granted I've spent a LOT more time with the Z500's interface than the v551 but both phones allow for wallpapers, screensavers, and themes. However, the Z500 also lets you change the exterior faceplates and lets you use animated GIFs for the wallpaper. I'm not positive but I don't recall that the v551 offers either one of those options.
The main lack of options I've noticed on the z500a has more to do with how it functions. I REALLY want to be able to adjust the delay before the screensaver comes on and then the delay before the screen switches off or goes to th...

The z500a has an external color display which means you can have picture caller ID and also a nice viewfinder for self portraits. The z500a also doesn't have any limit on the length of video you record other than the amount of available m...
