isn't the 1900 band going away in the US? won't it render this phone pretty much useless in the states then?

😕

Wha? No, absolutely not. Where the heck did you hear that? 1900 MHz spectrum, like all radio spectrum, is extremely valuable. Companies that have it, use it, and will continue to use it as long as they can.

T-Mobile USA is 100% GSM 1900. They have no reason to move to other spectrum. (And there's nothing available to move to even if they wanted to.)

AT&T and Cingular both have 1900 spectrum. It's worth billions, and they need it. Even though they also have 850 spectrum, they couldn't support all of their customers on 850 alone.

Is anyone currently using this phone with Cingular in the U.S.? Without the 850 MHz band, I'm wondering how good coverage would be, specifically if buying the K700 unlocked (not from Cingular).

Just wondering how much the 850 band helps out in the U.S., currently that is.

in some areas, the 850 band is the only way to get signal, so pretty vital in some areas.
