Bluetooth activation on the A840
Just talked to my Verizon rep who stated that Bluetooth is disabled because of agreements with their ringtone and other content providers. Apparently, they don't have bluetooth locked down tight enough to prevent copyrighted material transfer (e.g. ringtones). Even at $.99 for a damn ringtone, it's all about the allmighty dollar.
That said and very off-the-record, is there any way to modify the firmware with any officially or unofficially available software to enable the bluetooth functionality that exists in the hardware of this phone?
By the way, the rep. also mentioned that this phone might have "enough" bluetooth enabled to allow connection to headsets and car kits. He was checking on this.

i know there are gadgets out there that can plug into your phone and make them bluetooth compatible. I know Jabra and Motorola makes one. The problem with motorolas is there is no release button and it plugs into the charging port into the bottom of the phone and takes up the whole port and to get it the adapter out u literally have to yank it out which can damage your port. But thst would be your ownly othe possibility for bluetooth coonnection at this time.

Thanks Motoman. Good ideas on the Jabra and Moto plug-ins, but I'm really looking to turn on the data capabilities of bluetooth. I'd like to synch my contact database and calendar to the phone.
I'm pretty pissed that Verizon has chosen to limit their bluetooth capabilities. The reasoning is completely childish given the revenue involved. The value of bluetooth is not cosmetic (headsets, car adapters). For power users, the value is in data syncronization. Hope someone from Verizon is reading this.

Yea i know Verizon says they are always looking to make the most of their phones and networks when all the concentrate on is ringtones, wallpapers, and screensavers. But what about stuff like bluetooth things that when you are driving could save lives ya know? Verizon is just at their old games again but what can you do i think customers really need to step up or step out im looking at Alltel they have a AWESOME national plan better coverage than Americas Choice just that Alltel dont have the phone selection Verizon has there is always a catch! What really angers me is the new Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset that is to be out by the end of june and verizon has 1 phone to use it on 2 if they get the e815 out by than!
