Hing Defect

I recently returned my 6255i, I got the phone in May (one of the first ones sold). The hing had developed a small crack that was slowly growing. Upon returning the phone for a new one (under warranty with Cellular South) I spoke with 4 sales reps there who all had the phone as their personal handset; every one of them had a crack in the same place.

I would advise you guys (especially those of you who got it early) to take a good look at the outside portion of the hing on your phone to look for such cracking, if you don't catch it soon enough you end up out of warranty with a busted hing on a phone that wasn't cheap.

It's my understanding the hinge cracking is a warrantable repair. One of our P & D people sent communication regarding this and it was covered according to Nokia.

Did Cell South send it to their repair facility or just tell you it's not covered?

w0rdie-

Thanks for bringing this up. The left hinge on my 6255i started slightly cracking a month ago, and last week the right hinge plastic cracked completely in two. The flip portion still moved fine, but I knew it was a matter of time before the thing let go. Because of your post I stopped by my local Cellular South store and showed them the phone. At first the woman said that their technician would have to look at it first, but after seeing my phone version she said she would go ahead and give me a new phone since 'they were replacing all of the first version of this phone with a newer version'. She did not elaborate on why, but regardless I now have a new phone.

I got my phone the first day it was available, so there might possib...

Yea about 3 weeks after they were released to Cell South Nokia sent a new shipment of phones that had the updated firmware (the one that DIDN'T rush to make CS and the rest of us happy). This firmware fixes the power off bug, the ring from MMC freeze issue and a few other minor things.

The hinge is almost surely the exact same thing you and I both got on day one, so just keep an eye on it and exchange it again if you see a new crack. I don't plan on having mine too much longer, as the CDMA RAZR is due out soon but if the 6255 acts right until then I'll be happy. Even with the problems that it has it is a great phone.

Also, to answer an earlier question, I only go to the Pensacola FL cell south store.

im not sure if we are going to be getting the CDMA RAZR phone as we have pulled all sales of Mot. in the memphis area due to the charging ports and all the problems we have had. By the way, does your phone have a zoom on the camera? Mine does but everyone else in another forum says it does not.

Yes my phone has a zoom, it's just ****ty digital zoom that I never use but it is there.

You work for Cell South in Tenn? What do you do for them? I've not heard anything about issues with Moto phones, as far as I know they're still selling them in the Florida market.
