Nokia 6255i / 6256i
From the VZW front...
VWZ reps don't have any listed information about this phone. None. They won't be getting it.
It's not a matter of "not passing testing". That's obviously total crap, as anybody would realize. Think about it. Why would VZW let their name be put on a product that isn't good enough for them to sell, but is OK to get at third party dealers, to run on the VZW network, and get VZW support?
Total crap.
VWZ has two or three third party phones that are sold *only* at places like Radio Shack and Best Buy, and not at the Corporate Stores. This is to get people to those third party stores. Otherwise everyone would go to the corporate stores and no one would buy from t...

I talked to a local VWZ store rep in Emeryville, CA about the 6256.

I don't see why it would make any difference.
It's branded as a Verizon phone, sold in an area with VZW coverage. Those who've posted as having one on VZW haven't mentioned any difference.
I'm going to get one, and if there is a difference, I've got 14 days to return it.

what agents have ne2? only verizon corporate offers that, and that is one way they drive customers back to them and away from verizon indirect agents. Verizon likes having agents becasue it means they can cover more area saturating markets with their brandname, but constantly offer stuff that is direct store only like early upgrades and allowing customers to keep low end rate plans or any exceptions that custoemr care makes and tells them to stop in a store to take advantage of. The 6256 will be at verizon stores for christmas! They are already in the shipping process and floating around. Verizon will waite until they have enough products in all their stores nationwide before they role it out instead of ha

This phone is released to radio shack in are market (ohio). Still not available at the direct level. Called on pricing radio shack has it fot 99.99 no rebate 11/19/2005.
Try Best Buy, they definitely have them. RS doesn't have them, at least not in my area. Not surprising seeing RS is dropping Verizon at the end of Decemeber.

Go to Best Buy, it's $269 without contract. Plus you don't have to deal with the chuckleheads at RS.
the local Best Buy, actually every Best Buy I've ever been in has the most uninformed employees I've ever seen. The guy at BB wearing the Verizon Wireless shirt told me that all of the new Verizon Wirless phones were tri-mode in prder to honor the new free roaming incentive.
chucklehead must have a completely different definition from what I'm use to.

Sorry to hear of your experience. I can only speak to my experiences at RS, and I've vowed never to rely on them for any advice when it comes to cell phones.
While the Best Buy guys are definitely not rocket scientists, it seems like I ALMOST ALWAYS have a bad experience with Radio Shack people. They never know anything, an' they don' seem to care that they don' know either. Plus they don' seem to take you seriously unless you dress yuppie. Who needs 'em?
Well, according to the Emeryville Store (Corporate Store, not a kiosk) Radio Shack and Best Buy can give me the NE2 discount. My local BB and RS told me the same thing. So far, they're all on the same page.
No Verizon reps were able to confirm that the Nokia would be coming, and they all said that they had no word at all.
The lower level reps could indeed be kept in the dark until the last minute. It doesn't seem to me that VZW would wait to have every single store stocked before a roll out, but it's a possibility.
Regardless, I don't think I'll wait until then.
I've seen a few online only promos at VZW over the years. And recently, some discounts at the site were available in VZW store only in...

You show no signs of intelligence.
On the one hand, you sounded good talking about why there are phones Verizon only sells through agents.
VZW already has "third-party"phones. Where is your evidence that these phones "didn't pass testing"?
But then you ask the difference between NE2 and upgrading....
Yes, I did. And you failed to provide the answer.
anyone with any knowledge about Verizon knows this difference.
Well, not anyone. I've been a VZW customer for several years, and have used NE2 twice, and have been eligible for a new phone for the last few months.
At the VWZ website, the "Upgrade" button doesn't show me anything different th...

I am also in the Bay Area and am interested in the 6256i. As I posted earlier:
https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_forum.php?fm=m&f ... »
it was available at the Emeryville Best Buy earlier in the week.
If you make some calls, you will find you ***cannot*** get NE2 from Best Buy, Radioshack online, or Nokia direct. You can get NE2 from Verizon stores or online, or Radio Shack stores. I wish it weren't so, but it is.
The only "evidence" will be for you to contact the stores/vendors and find out for yourself, just as I already have done.
Good luck, and let us know if you find it in any Verizon or Radioshack stores.
I called BB and RS employees, and the Emeryville VWZ store, and they all said that I'd get the discount. This was all concerning walk-in B&M, not the online versions. They could all be clueless, but I hope that's not the case.
I'll be prepared for a different story when I go in. I have no problem not buying or returning the phone if my discount doesn't come through.
I'll be hounding my local RS which is a pretty good one, long time knowledgeable staff (a rarity in the many RS stores in my area).
SystemShock makes a good case for the phone. I'll add that a friend has the MetroPCS 6255 and has sent me a few pictures. With a little care, you can get some very nice images. You won't be making any 8x10s, but I was surprise...

I don't get this whole thing, I could understand if Verizon was still selling the moto V710. They are very comparable of you look feature for feature. What I can't understand is why Verizon would have indirect agents selling a phone that the corporate stores do not have a comparable phone to sell. This is the only tri-mode phone with BT that Verizon has on the market at the moment. Can someone that works at a corporate store please give me an answer, and I really don't believe that the Nokia didn't pass Verizon testing. No company is going to allow an indirect agent to sell a phone that hasn't passed testing, regardless of who sells it, it still has a verizon logo on the cover.
You won't get...

that's pretty much what I figured, I'm beginning to view cell phone sales people in the same light as used car salesmen. I have a Best Buy, Circuit City and a corporate Verizon wireless store all near where I live. I can go to all three any day of the week and get three different answers to the same question. The only person I feel that's been completely honest with me about my phone questions is a sales guy at Radio Shack. Quite discouraging.
Well I wish you luck whatever you decide. Keep in mind that your NE2 will always be available if you don't use it now.

From what I've heard (Nokia rep), the reason it isn't getting sold in Corporate stores is because Nokia wouldn't put V-CAST on it.
Although I would not be surprised if Bluetooth has something to do with it as well, as the RAZR will still be crippled when it comes out, from what I've seen so far, so Verizon hasn't decided to let Bluetooth be Bluetooth yet, this one is apparently an exception.
We haven't gotten the phone in yet, hopefully soon.
Anyone in the Chicago area happen to have seen it available?
