My husband really wants this for Christmas, and I've been thinking of getting it for him. The problem is that no one he knows owns one. Is it possible to play against random people, or do you have to the person to play against? Please help!

I just got mine about 2 weeks ago. I am still playing with it. But I do like it so far. Its features are really kind of neat.
But to answer your question. Yes. You can. There is a feature called "Arena" where you can play with anybody on the network. Weather they are across the room or across the globe.

BTW I bought my phone from Amazon.com. After the rebates it worked out to not only be free but I made $50.00 in the black. I don't know if those rebates are still going on but they were as of the last week of Oct. when I ordered my phone.
