What kind of experience have owners of the SoHo phone had with battery life? With analog roaming turned off, I am averaging about 80 minutes of talk time in a normal 12-16 hour day before the battery dies completely. This is far short of Kyocera's claim of "up to 210 minutes".

That sounds abnormally short. I don't have many really long conversations, but I have to recharge only once every 4 or 5 days, usually.

I had the handset and battery replaced under warranty but there was no difference in battery life. The longest the battery has lasted is 44 hours and during that period the timer showed 26 minutes of talk time.

You could be living in a weak signal area in which case the phone has to transmit more power (basic principle of power control in CDMA).
Some carriers do not have good coverage in some areas - Sprint coverage in the inland areas of San Diego, Riverside, Imperial and San Bernardino counties is flat out bad.
That could be one of the reasons for battery life shortcomings

I really don't think a weak signal is the problem. I never had this problem with my Kyocera 2325 and my usage pattern is the same with this phone.

Just out of curiosity, how many bars of coverage do you normally have when you make calls? In my home I usually have all 4 bars, which may be a reason why my batteries last 4 days.
I do notice that heavy call usage drains the battery fast, probably faster than what Kyocera claims.
You could pick up an extended battery from Kyocera, that will give you about 50% more time. That's assuming you are otherwise satisfied with the phone.

I normally have three or four bars during the day where I use the phone. At home I usually have either zero or one bar As a test, I charged the phone and left it lying on a table in my house to see how long the battery would last if the phone were not used at all. It lasted 140 hours which is nearly 80% of Kyocera's claim; this is acceptable to me. It is when I actually use the handset that the battery drains so quickly. As for the extended battery, I really don't want the bulk; what I want is for the phone to perform somewhat close to Kyocera's claim of up to 210 minutes of talk time.

OK, I think that explains it. "Standby time", even with only 1 bar, doesn't take much power. But using the phone a lot, with just one bar, will deplete the battery quicker than the manufacturer's claims.
This according to a friend who is a "battery expert". I use my phone almost exclusively in situations where there are 3 or 4 bars, and I get about what Kyocera says I should get in terms of usage.
If you don't want the bulk for the extended, you will either live with the shorter talk time, or change phone models and HOPE you get one that doesn't deplete the battery as quickly when you are talking on it.
Or move, but that's probably not viable .

But, like I said, where I USE the phone 95% of the time, I typically have a 3-4 bar signal indicator. And this is the first Kyocera I have had that behaves in this manner. I still think this particular handset is defective, or perhaps a firmware/software issue with it. At this point, I will just have to live with it, or try to get my carrier or Kyocera to agree with me and exchange it or repair it. Thanks for your input; at least I know someone is getting acceptable battery life with this handset.

I've also had mediocre battery life on mine as well. I just picked mine up on 4/23. I charged it, but I don't know how long a full charge takes. Anyways, since yesterday morning (8:30am) after charging all nite Sunday, I have one bar remaining on the battery level (2:45pm PT) and I've only talked about 60-80 minutes. I do have a weak signal at work (1-2 bars), but at home, it's about 4 bars. So I don't know yet. I'm definitely going to go back and get a new battery or a new phone to see if it helps.
I wish the battery claims were substantiated as to what conditions they were conducted under.

Allegedly, the battery is fully charged when the interior display indicates so, or the battery icon is solid. Sounds like yours is working about like mine, which is not very well. I see that Verizon is claiming talk time of 158 minutes, which is significantly less than Kyocera's cliam of 210 minutes, but still much more than I am getting. On a positive note, though, the phonebook seems to be virtually unlimited; I have about 220 entries, many with multiple numbers, and continue to add more.
