Using v3 as a GSM-data usb modem???

Here is what I am trying to do...

I have MPT 3.19e and used to install and hooked up the v3 via USB cable. I am trying to use the internet connection option to setup a GSM-Data dial-up to my ISP. The phone dials and immediately spits out few beeps and nothing.

I've called Moto support, which had me uncheck the "wait for dialtone option" under control panel->phones and modem->modem tab.
Still the same problem. The support guy then tells me I have to have data services enabled from Cingular (my cell service provider)

Now, Data services to Cingular is the mediaNet package that uses GPRS and its not free.

My question is that why can't I use GSM-Data talking to my ISP as an "analog" modem device directly? Is this a restriction ...

Try MA8870 from MobileAction, you will love this product. It is really a nice data transfer tool. 😁
