ringtone stutter

I've noticed that when recieving a text message with an mp3 ringtone set for the alert, the mp3 "stutters" for half a sec in the middle of the alert. Anyone else experience this?

I have the same problem with an MP3 I loaded up as ringtone.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what the ideal file format is for a ringtone? I would like to convert mine to it.
