New-Every-Two Price Question

Hillzy

I went to Radio Shack today and got a V260 for my new-every-two renewal. They charged me $49.99 for the phone. That is the same price that a new customer would pay. Does that seem right? I thought that new-every-two meant you got a new phone up to $100 at no cost. The RS guy tried telling me the phone actually cost $250 and he gave me a $100 instant credit and then the other $100 was my new-every-two credit. But that $250 price is with no contract - and the price I paid I still had to sign up for another two years with Verizon.
I even tried calling Verizon customer service but the guy on the phone never heard of the V260 and could not tell me how much I should have been charged, but he did say that "it sounded like I got a good deal...

No you are asking for too much. New every two just means you get a new phone every two years when you sign a two year contract. It doesn't say free every two. They probably had a free phone option that you could of had but you wanted a premium phone so expect to pay extra for that. There is no special discount for being a continuing customer just for signing a new contract. That is the industry standard model. You sound like you are trying to make yourself out as a victim but you got the standard discount a nice new phone and a good price for it. Personallly I will sign with USCellullar as they offer more minutes for the money but the phone will cost me the same.

dude...you made a bad mistake..that phone is crap dude..you should try to learn stuff on your own before you come in here talking about how you got riped off.. ofcourse you got riped off man..for starters you signed up with verizon(bad mistake) and then you bought yourself an ugly ass phone. Now you are stuck with that brick and a two year freakin contract,,, believe me bro..the best thing to do is just pay the 175 early termination fee,,throw that brick in the water and go to cingular and get yourslef a nokia 6620..peace out!

Gotta agree with you, Cingular sure does have the best phones. But in NJ, I have to go with Verizon for the service. Too many dropped calls with Cingular.

Yep, cool phones are nothing if the service/network sucks. That's why my friend is dropping ATT&W (now Cingular) after it gave her too many dropped calls, and going with Verizon this month. That's out in Northern California, SF/SJ Bay Area.

It sounds like RS overcharged you. This is a little hard to determine because Verizon does not have the phone yet. But lets take the V265 which is really the same phone with a camera and should cost more. My 2 year contract is up next week. I called Verizon and the price of the V265 for a new customer is $49.99 with a 2 year contract. So is I if I renew for 2 years I get the phone for $49.99 minus $100.(new every 2 credit) = $0. You can get a phone up to $100 for free.

This is the text right off of the Verizon website:

"Sign up for and maintain 2 years of service on a digital plan of $34.99 or higher to qualify for a free phone (up to $100 value), or receive $100 towards the purchase of a more expensive phone, with a 2-year renewal."

I am not trying to be a "victim" here - I am simply trying to understand how the New Every Two plan is any different than being a new customer. Verizon touts the New Every Two as being a great deal for its customers, and I am not seeing any benefit.

I think your problem is with RS. It seems like they did not properly give you credit for the new every 2.

ok here is the deal,
i have been trying to figure this out for a bit now, since i am also in the boat where i can't get a camera phone and no other phone has an external display and tri mode. I want the v260.

the problem is that the new every two, only works through A) a verizon store (run by verizon, not a private party of other company like RS) B)online at verizonwireless.com C) over the phone WITH verizons customer service.

the radio shack employee lied to you in order to get himself some comission, because say if you did not have verizon or any service... and you walked in there today wanting a 2 year contract, and the v260 with verizon. then you would (WITHOUT the new every two) get the phone for 49.99. (249.99 - 100 for 2 year ...

blackgoldgator - you make some very good points I had not thought of or known about. In fact, you have convinced me to go return the phone tonight. I am keeping my fingers crossed that RS will take the phone back, refund my money, turn on my old phone, and undo the new 2-year contract I signed - all without a hitch! I guess I got too eager to get a new phone (my old T720 is falling apart!), and I thought you could get the same deals at RS and the Verizon store.
But I would rather have good service and be able to go into a Verizon store for help over the next two years. Not to mention that I was shafted for $50!

Now I am just keeping fingers crossed that the V260 comes out soon! Black Friday would be a good time.

Thank you very ...

I went to RS today and looked at both the v265 and v260. I really was not interested in a camera phone but after looking at both I think I will go for the 265. Don't know why anyone would get the 260 over the 265 unless you absolutly cannot have the camera for business reasons. The feature set, dimensions battery life and everything else is the same for both phones. Only difference is the camera. The cover on the 260 seems to bulge out more than the 265. Don't know why, since the 260 has no camera. Anyway after all that I mentioned the Verizon new every 2. At that point I got a lot of fast talk about both phones being $250 phones and RS giving me a $200 rebate. Bottom line was, RS cannot honor the Verizon new every 2 price and the phone will...

In exchange for signing a new 2-year contract, New Every Two gives you a new phone, at the same price as a new customer off the street, MINUS up to $100 (in other words, if the new customer, 2-year-contract price is $49, you'll get $49 off instead of $100.)

Most importantly, and I got this verbatim from multiple phone reps: The only way to get your new-every-two discount is through Verizon TeleSales (over the phone at *611 or (800) 2-JOIN-IN) or in a VERIZON-OWNED STORE. Not local dealers and NOT RADIO SHACK.

You have to have signed a two-year contract two years ago, and not "upgraded" your phone since then (in other words gotten a phone from VZW at any discounted price).

When you do your upgrade and get the New Every Two dis...

Customers can also now obtain their New Every 2 thgrough My Account on VZW.com or through customer service.

You are 100% correct in the sense that the NE2 cannot be redeemed at an indirect store (third party retailor)

Radio Shack does not honor a new every two discount. That discount can only be redeemed at a verizon Wireless Corporate Store location, Radio Shack is an indirect dealer for Verizon Wireless.

You're right. Indirect channels of Verizon (radioshack/Wireless Zones etc) CAN NOT redeem the NE2.

Keep in mind that even the VZW Direct stores dont really give you the FULL $100 credit. They include the rebate with the NE2 credit.

For example,
The V265 is 99.99 minus a $50 rebate. The rebate is included with the NE2, so you'll get 50 back from the rebate center and VZW will credit you $50 for the phone. Or say, a phone has a $70 rebate, you only get a $30 credit off the phone at the register.

Hope this helps.

Also keep in mind that if you order it on the verizon wireless website, the rebate is given instantly, no mail in.
