I have an IBM Thinkpad notebook with Bluetooth built in and using the Windows XP bluetooth software.
No problem pairing the SMT with the computer. I also enabled the phone's serial ports (COM6 & COM7) and I selected COM7 (tried with 6 as well) in ActiveSync->Connection Settings->Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port.
Any time I try to setup ActiveSync Bluetooth connection on my phone I get a message:
"Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port ot ActiveSync profile as your ActiveSync partner"
What am I doing wrong?
...
I am, at present, suffering the same problem. From what I understand, it has everything to do with the fact that the phone does not apparently support Bluetooth Serial functionality. Modem, yes; serial port, no. And it is that serial port that ActiveSync needs to do it's thing. I am trying to find a way around this, but that is not likely to happen. I am also trying to get ahold of someone at Audiovox to see if they can shed some light on this for me, but this is a slow process to get someone who actuall knows anything beyond "You need to call your carrier".
Adding BT Serial Port support is a software thing, and not a hardware thing, so in theory if this is something that is missing but can be made available later, it's probably just a pi...

I can sync over bluetooth just fine. Browse files and copy them to my phone. I sync both with my PC and an exchange server. Not sure why you all are having such a hard time. First you have to pair your device....easy. Go to Bluetooth settings and devices -> new...if you haven't done so. Now, mind you, I made sure to sync without bluetooth at least once before I sync WITH bluetooth...just as a note. Then I go to activesync with my 5600, push link....then a little message will pop up on windows XP. The message will resquest your approval for the acceptance of the connection. I clicked...OK and set the checkbox for "never ask me this again." After I clicked okay, it synced. And synced ever since. I ahd some problems syncing to the se...

I tried everything you are describing myself but it doesn't work. I suspect it is something on my notebook, not the phone.
What Bluetooth software are you using on your PC? Is it some proprietary driver or is it the driver that comes standard in Windows XP?
Thanks
...
I have a belkin bluetooth adapter and I installed those drivers and put bluetooth programs on my computer. I uninstalled that because I dont like trash on my computer (two things that do the same thing). I am running XP SP2 and am using the bluetooth software that comes standard with that.
Firstly, pair your devices...you say thats no problem, then youre good with that.
(Insert this step here only if didn't work without it)
Go to Settings->Data Connections
Change your "Internet" to Automatic
Go to Internet Explorer
Menu->Options->select Internet int he drop down list if not already selected.
Go to ActiveSync
Menu->Connect With BlueTooth
Accept the Connection when the XP message pops up...watch it active sync

Thanks for trying to help however nothing seems to help. I tried everything you have suggested but nothing. I don't get any message on my XP when trying to connect with Bluetooth. It just looks like its doing nothing.
Its probably not a hardware issue as my Bluetooth works great with my Bluetooth headset.
I did sync with the USB cable many times. This works just fine. Any other ideas?
...
I have the same problem syncing Samsung Blackjack II SGH-i617 - WM6.1 OS with my XP Pro SP# PC and ActiveSync ver 4.5. It works fairly reliably with USB cable. But with Bluetooth, here's what happens. (I can BT interface with my headset just fine). I can pair the PC and phone fine. The phone shows up on PC BT devices list. The PC name shows up on phone BT Devices list. (I can not add a COM port for the PC in the phone; it does not give me a list to choose from). BT is on in both PC and phone. I open ActiveSync on phone. Pressing Sync option does not do anything. Pressing Menu/Connect via Bt gives me the error “Cannot find an existing BT partnership" Responding with Yes or No nets no different results. Same happens with "Sync all PCs us...

OK, after looping around in circles a few thousand times, I finally got it to work as well. Part of the trick is how you set up the connection on your PC (I think) and part of it is how you set up BT on your phone.
1] It is true that you MUST sync at least once with your PC using the cable before BT sync will work.
2] Be sure to remove the cable before trying to sync the phone via BT or IR.
3] Remove any previous parings/bondings you may have already established between the phone and the PC (both on the phone and on the PC).
4] Go into ActiveSync on your phone (Start|6)
5] Press Menu|3 to set up your BT ActiveSync connection.
6] Press [Start]
7] Phone tells you to "Please bond...". Press [OK]
8] Wait a few seconds and...

Thanks!! I do have SP2 but nevertheless - this worked like a charm. I can finally Sync!
Now a question: Do you live your phone Synced all the time or does it drain the battery too fast?
...
Syncing does not drain the phone. Having the BT radio on ALL the time is what drains the batteries. That being said, I leave mine on all the time (since I also use a BT headset). So far, I am getting about 4 days out of a full charge with lite to mild use of the phone. When I REALLY use it (lots of calls, both directions), I am getting about 2 days. In both cases, I am leaving BT on ALL the time and making sure to charge the phone fully (no partial charges) and to turn it off at night when I am not using it.
Your patterns and mileage will most definitely vary.

So are you using a Serial Port Profile for the connection? If so, which COM port are you emulating on? I am using the Linksys BT100 on my desktop computer to make this connection but when I try to discover what services the Audiovox 5600 is capable of (using the Linksys software) Serial Port isn't one of them. In fact, if I specify tell the software that's what I want to use it says the Audiovox doesn't offer it.
On curious note, if I follow your directions fully, and click on "connect via bluetooth" the phone says "connecting..." and my computer shows a message balloon (message from XP) that the phone is connected using a Serial Port connection but then the balloon goes away and the phone shows "Not Connected".
...
Well, never mind my post. I discovered that the software for my old phone (Nokia 3650) was interfering with the discovery process. I uninstalled it and after a little playing with ActiveSync on the PC everything worked.

I have a IBM Thinkpad T40p with built-in bluetooth running Windows XP Service Pack 2. I was able to seamlessly sync with this system using Sony Ericsson's software over bluetooth with T637.
When I tried connecting the Audiovox with my PC even though the devices discovered each other they would not connect (step 17 above in the mail by winhack). So IBM customer care had me install their bluetooth drivers (WIDCOMM ones). This thing gets the connection in the sense that I get all the profiles (serial/audio/modem - compared to only modem earlier) on my pc and I can use the pc as a headset for my phone which means bluetooth is connecting. But the activesync connection just keeps displaying connecting and never returns.
I wonder if the problem...

I am by no means an expert, but I believe I read earlier in this forum a thread by WinHack or someone else stating that before you can sync with BT you must first sync with the USB cable first - I believe you only have to do this initially - other than that I am not sure - look back in this forum and you should see it on the first couple of pages.
Good Luck
...
I switched to Windows XP Service Pack 1 and WIDCOMM drivers. After all the setup when I say to my phone to connect to the PC using bluetooth i receive a prompt on the pc saying this device is trying to connect and i allow it. but after that the phone keeps displaying connecting and nothing happens.
could it be due to difference in serial ports on phone and pc (COM ports : phone has incoming at COM6 and outgoing at COM7 while my PC has Bluetooth Serial Port at COM5).
...
Finally got it. Had to override the activesync on pc to pick the bluetooth serial com port set by my bluetooth driver.
Oh the painful last two days!
