SMT 5600 + Spint ... is it possible?
Does Sprint support GSM phones on there network?
I own a Audiovox SMT 5600, but AT&T is garbage. I've just canceled my service with AT&T and i'm stuck with the phone now.
Since I already have a plan with Sprint, I was thinking about just using the SMT 5600 on my sprint plan instead of using my old phone. Is it possible? Thanks.
(Also, I've read that using Cingular it is possible to use network features like text msgs and internet. Is it possible to use them with Sprint as well? I assume the method would be the same.)

Yea, see that's the thing. Yesterday I called Sprints Customer Service and asked if they support GSM phones on their network. The rep put me on hold for a few minutes and then told me GSM frequency is now supported by sprint. I wanted to check here just to make sure what she said was true. Because if it is, then i could use an unlocked GSM phone on the service, correct?

You can't use a GSM phone on a CDMA network. It's just not possible. GSM and CDMA are two completely different technologies. They might work on the same e frequencies, however they are different technologies.

First off, as far as my knowledge goes, phones on GSM use a different chip and phones on CDMA (sprint) use a different chip for processing signals. So I would be quite surprised if you can make a GSM phone work on CDMA.
Secondly, text messaging with sprint is not possible. Text messaging, until the advent of EVDO (high speed equivalent for CDMA) is solely a GSM feature. I used to be a sprint customer and one of the big reasons i switched to at&t is because sprint doesn't support text messaging.

Your better off going with an outside party for your text or voice-mail messaging needs. None of the current cellular service providers can handle messaging needs for their subscribers across the board. They will offer excellent service for one aspect of a customers messaging needs but drop the ball on the rest! Go to www.Dictomail.com and check ot some of the services they offer. They provide a free live Demo for potential subscribers to check out the service and have feature that will convert all incoming voice-mails to text so that they may be viewed immediately by the receiver.
