Edge or class 10

So which is faster? which will allow for 3G? Is edge and class 10 the same thing?

if the class 10 applies for EDGE, that'll be 4+1 (about 236:59=dl:up)
it has class 10 GPRS (4+2=48:24=dl:up)

ummm ok that doesn't explain much especially when all they put is Class 10. So if the phone doesn't mention Edge it wont have it? I really think they need to be more distinct class10 is class 10 the speed is the same weather it is edge or not
