Ok, here's what I want to do.
I am planning to get a flipstart soon ( www.flipstart.com ) and would like to have hi speed data on the go.

I would like to bluetooth the internet (hi speed data preferred) from my phone to my laptop/palmtop. Will any carriers allow this?

The problem usually wouldn't be with the carrier. You may run into a problem finding a phone that will allow you to do that. I don't know of a phone with cingular that will allow you to do that.

I thought that was the whole point of the bluetooth -- allow the phone to wirelessly link to your laptop/PDA for EDGE/GPRS.

If all bluetooth allows is syncing contacts without a cable, big deal.

I know the Mot phones do allow BT to other devices, as long as the carrier doesn't cripple the phone (as Radio Shack does with the V710 BT).

Yes.

Most carriers prefer you to purchase an "air-card" (PCMCIA or similar) to perform this using a laptop. PDAs have various connectivity options, so it's a bit trickier.

All carriers push their Wireless Internet services to manage the services and connection.

With WAP and GPRS easily manipulated through the handset, Cingular has (for the most part) blocked the standard BT/IR tether ability to promote the sale of their pricier data connection services.

Typically, neither Cingular nor T-Mobile allows for handset tethering to PC or PDA without a data service of $29.99 or higher.

SprintPCS and Verizon have similar policies, but that doesn't matter one bit since their handsets generally do not have the necessary connectivity, or...
