Voice dialing costs extra?

Cingular's web site seems to indicate that I'd have to pay extra to use the voice dialing on the v551. I found this surprising, since it's built into my current v60 and seems to operate independently of the network. Do newer phones require the network for voice dialing, or is Cingular just being greedy and crippling the phone?

i don't know where you read that voice dialing is extra, maybe cingular provides an extra service, but i use the voice dialing built into my phone and i've never gotten charged for it

Well, when shopping on Cingular's site, the list of features for the phone includes:

Voice activated dialing and commands*

* Subscription dependent feature

And on an Amazon.com review (http://tinyurl.com/4b2uq) of the v551, someone mentions that Cingular has disabled voice dialing, requiring a $4.99/month subscription to "Voice Connect."

I saw it explained somewhere else. I think over in the Cingular forum. Basically with the v551 you are limited by the voice tag you set on your entries. You just can't say the name of an address book entry and expect it to dial that entry. The phone does not do voice recognition like that.

I believe with Cingulars Voice Connect service you can somehow set it up (probably on Cingulars servers) so you can use voice recognition to dial entries. Indepenent of the voice entries on the v551.

I hope that explains it.
