Saving contacts SIM vs Phone... advantages of each?
At first I thought the advantage of saving to SIM might be if the phone lost power (aka, battery dies...) only the data on the SIM would survive, but then I removed my battery and the saved contacts from the phone were still there as well - unless I didn't wait long enough for the stored charge to die?
So... what are the advantages or disadvantages of saving to Phone vs Sim or visa-versa?

Some features like picture ID and voice dial only work if number is in phone memory. Other than that, no difference. If you change phones, you can copy phone memory to SIM, transfer SIM to new phone and all your contacts (and your phone number) will be in new phone.

Ok, so basically until I am about to change phones, I am better off (more options) storing the info in the phone?

Yes, if you want to attach picture ID's, voice dial, etc. I recently switched phones and the Cingular guy copied all my contacts to the SIM card, moved it from my Nokia to my new Motorola, and POOF! there was all my contacts and the new V551 became my phone number right before my eyes! I tried to add picture id to a couple of my numbers and that's when I discovered they need to be in phone memory to do so. All the rest are still on SIM card. Cant tell a differenc if just looking up a number to dial and not interested in picture id, etc..

Something to consider about advantages for storing on the SIM card. I had a V551 phone that the keypad locked up and wouldn't do anything. Cingular replaced it but anything that was on the phone was lost. My advice: Backup with the SIM card!

You could also use a data cable and Motorola Mobile Phone tools to backup your phone book.
You might have even been able to access the sim and phone address book even if the phones keypad wouldn't respond.

So how do we backup to the SIM card?
