Monitor Distrotion

Hi,
I bought the v551 back in November (S/W version R47_G_08.17.0FR) and I have noticed a few annoying things with this phone. The most concerning is the interference with my computer monitor. This happens both at work (Dell flat panel) and at home (older CRT). I'm concerned about the amount of radiation that is emitted to cause my monitor to periodically make a loud buzzing noise. This happens when the phone is idle (no calls active or coming in). Have others seen this problem? My wife has the same phone and she has the same complaint.

Other complains:
1) Dropped calls (could be service area)
2) Ringer sometimes changes to silent
3) Very poor voice quality on speaker. I'm told that it sounds like I'm talking underwater

Thanks in a...

No idea how to fix the monitor, but on the dropped calls, how often do you power cycle your phone? If you dont power cycle once every couple of days you will experience software delays and dropped calls, its a software glitch in a lot of the new Moto's

I *never* power cycle my phone. In fact, when I get home at night, I charge it up. The battery is always charged. Thanks for the info. I will start cycling power periodically.

surfer454,

Hi, I have the same problem with the buzzing noises from computer speakers and the sub woofer. My speaker phone also makes buzzing noises at times. We thought we had a couple bad devices but my daughter figured out that every time she turned on her V551 her
pc speakers started buzzing. We tested this theory on our new Dell speakers and sure enough they started buzzing. We have three of the V551's and I'm also wondering if they're safe to use. Any one know anything about the safety issue with this problem?

Every cell phone in the world does this. They're picking up RF signals. This isn't radiation, but electrical interference. Lots of things run on similar frequencies and can interact with other objects. You'll probably notice the sound most when your cell phone is searching for a signal or a call is coming in.

blinkman987,

I have had various cell phones made by different manufacturers including other Motorola's and none have caused interference with computers or any other device.

You are probably correct in the fact that all cell phones pick up RF signals but not all cell phones cause interference with other components. I believe this is a problem with the phone or the service from Cingular.

Either way, I'm not going to keep a cell phone that I cannot use near other equipment.

Thanks for your reply,

John

It's probably because of the frequency of the signal. I've noticed that many, and I qualify it because I haven't seen every phone in existence, on digital carriers all do the same thing.
