Does anyone know how to make ringtones?

I have found a way of making ringtones but they are wasting my phones memory by so much like 700-900kb per song so is there a way to make the memory usage less because I saw that the amount of second per tone is the same if I were to buy it from at&t and it isn't like the 700-900kb im using up but it is from 40-90kb which is alot less. I have been noticed that the bit rate is 160 kbps and the bit rate for the tones I bought from at&t are 32-64kbps so I was thinking if that was the reason why my memory usage was so high so if anyone knows how to make the bit rate less from a song on the computer to send to my phone please reply or if anyone knows how to make the songs memory less

Thanks in advance

Yes that is where your space is going. There is no reason to have a high quality stereo mp3 on your phone as a ringtone when it's playing through a crappy mono speaker.

Some suggestions to save space would be to limit the mp3s to 30 secs because your service provider is more than likely going to forward the call to voicemail after approximately 30 seconds anyway. Also convert your mp3 to mono instead of stereo output and to keep the bitrate between 32-60kbs.
