V551 & Cingular

I was recently issued a V551 on Cingular from my company. I've always had Verizon and to get a PRL update would dial *228.
My question is, does a GSM phone need to be updated periodically with a PRL or similar, in particular the V551 on Cingular?

Also, is there any way to reassign the right soft key on the main menu? Right now it shows Video Cam & I don't see how to reasign like I did the left soft key?

It appears that on some of the v551s the right softkey was locked to that. If you have a data cable (or know someone who does) there is a simple edit to the phone that will open that right softkey option in the Personalize menu.

Otherwise no there is no way to fix that.
