Sony Ericsson Unlocked?

Someone here mentioned that all Sony Ericsson phones are unlocked. Is that true? The only reason I usually buy phones from outside vendors is to get unlocked versions to use in Europe. If I get this phone directly from Cingular (or buy it from Amazon) will I be able to swap in a different SIM card when I travel?

Ryan,

It's not that all Sony Ericsson Phones in the USA come unlocked. Rather, all the high end phones that Cingular releases have been known to be already unlocked when purchased from Cingular. I can say this from experience. My older brother purchased about 3 High end phones from Cingular when they were released, and they were all unlocked already. Also, I have spoken with other USA phoners on forums and they claim to have experienced the same with high end phones from Cingular. So to sum it up, 95% The S710a from cingular will be ulocked already and you'll be able to use any GSM service on it. 😎

Nope, as of 11/15/04 Cingular's policy states that all of its phones will be locked.

That does not mean that the phone you get will definately be locked. Most of the shipments that I've seen since then were still unlocked. However it IS the policy now to lock them, so don't be suprised if you slip a T-Mo SIM card in and it doesn't work.
