all digital versus tri mode
Can anyone please tell me if a phone that goes into extended area mode means it is using anolog...i've always bought tri mode from verizon in fear of not having service in the bahamas which i travel for business 6 times a year...does anyone know if an all digital will work there? Leaving in 2 weeks and would like to purchase a new phone before this next trip...

If it is really important to you, I would recommend you talk directly to Verizon and make sure you get an accurate answer.
An all DIGITAL phone does not receive anolog, but I don't know what the "extended area mode" is or will do.
But remember, if you have an old spare Tri-mode laying around, you can always have your phone number transfered to that phone when you take a trip and then transfered back when you return. Normally they will do that at no charge.

I went to the Bahamas last year. I stayed near the Atlantis. I had a all digital phone at the time and went out and specifically bought a tri-mode phone so that I had service. Guess what...NOTHING. The Bahamas uses GSM phones like Cingular and even my analog mode wasnt working. It said I had one bar, but the calls wouldnt go through. I do know though that you can rent a gsm phone while your there.
The exteneded network for vzw is a nice way to say you are in roaming. If a little triangle pops up next to your signal bar then you're in roaming. roaming charges something like 1.45 a minute or something like that I dont remember how much.
So simply put NO all digital will NOT work in Bahamas.
